Wood Care
How you take care of your woodenware items depends most on if and how you're using them. A bowl that is being used regularly for salads is going to need more care than one that holds fruit. In any case, here's some helpful advice on caring for your woodenware items...
If your woodenware item is just used for dry things or no things, it might need no treatment at all. Just occasionally dust it off with a dry rag.
All of my woodenware items are designed to be used with food. Just avoid extremes like beetroot juice or rotting fruit soaking into the wood.
If your woodenware item needs to be washed after stirring a pot, holding salad, etc., then just wash it with a wet soapy cloth like you would other dishes, rinse, and dry it. Do not soak it, and don't put any woodenware items in the dishwasher.
If you find that the wood starts looking dry, you can reapply an oil such as mineral oil or fractionated coconut oil. If you think it just looks a bit dull you can apply an oil & wax blend to it. You'll find my handmade, organic oil & wax blend in the Sloyd shop. Each Sloyd item is finished with two oil dips and two coats of my oil & wax blend.
Of course, something that gets used is bound to show signs of use. To some, this patina of use makes the object all the more beautiful. The item might take on a few dents or scratches. A wooden spoon, for example, may get worn over the years from continually contacting the bottom of the pot. These marks are simply reminders of that object's story. Ultimately it is up to you how you look after your woodenware items, take good care of them and they'll last for many years.
